Federal Government Meets ASUU as Fresh Nationwide Strike Looms Sunday, August 01, 2021, at 7:35 PM by Oluwatobi Bolashodun Another industrial dispute may occur between ASUU and the federal government if the demands of the union are not met In other for the industrial peace to be maintained the union and delegations from the federal government will meet According to Dr. Ibrahim Inuwa, the ASUU chairman at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University only two out of the eight issues had been addressed.
There are indications that the federal government is taking crucial steps to avert another nationwide strike across Nigerian universities. Recall that branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had expressed readiness to commence a fresh strike over the non-implementation of their agreement with the government on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Meanwhile, ASUU is not pleased with the federal government’s body language. According to Inuwa, the government is yet to implement six agreements it signed with the union. Inuwa said among items are earned academic allowance, funding for revitalization of public universities, the proliferation of state universities, renegotiation, and replacement of IPPS. Moreover, he stated that the set date for the release of the next tranche of the said allowance has expired followed by silence from the government.
